Shannon's Hot Pads.

SO, here are my creations. I made the first one (on top) with the help of my sweet and oh, SO patient, mother in law, Margaret, by my side. The second one I made by myself last night and WOW, was it an adventure!

First, I must have measured/sewed wrong because it is a little smaller than the first. Then, I sewed the first tag inside somehow. Finally, my sewing machine and I got in a huge fight at the end and I ended up sitting and finishing the outside stitching by hand. Needless to say, I was very dissapointed last night but I feel a little better about it today. (Maybe because none of you can see it close up, ha!)

I think I was secretly hoping I would just be a complete natural (a girl can dream, right?) but I guess for me sewing is just like anything else, I'm going to need practice. LOTS of it. So glad my tutor lives closeby. ;)

They look good Shannon, at least from far away! And now you know how much patience it takes.

Hey, Shan, they look good. Sometime when we're over, I'll look at your machine. I'm sure it's nothing too serious. And even "naturals" have to practice :)

It's a threading problem. For some reason, it didn't want to stay tight---I tried rethreading it several times, (I even followed their little visual guide) but apparently I kept missing a critical step.

They look good! And, if only you could see mine close up you'd see all the mistakes in them, too!

PS I zoomed in on the picture and they don't look that bad :)

They look really good, Shannon. "Naturals" start somewhere, too. Like the fabric.

I love the fabric, Shannon! They look good. Grandma Allred has the patience of an angel because she tried to teach all 7 of us to sew. I know I made more than one thing that she went back and fixed because she didn't want people to think that she'd made it and it looked that bad!

Shannon, there have been lots of times when I thought my sewing machine was broken, too. Unfortunately, it never was....

Nice job for a first project!

And by the way, my sewing machine needle broke when I was sewing Macey's hooded towel and I didn't have a replacement, so I had to do the last part by hand. I hope it doesn't fall apart the first time you wash it.
