Shannon's (Is it really the last day of the month?) Bag

Funny thing is I had this done last week; I've just kept forgetting to post it. I broke my first needle with this project. (Stupid pin!) Anyway, here's the bag I made:

And here are its contents:

It's all ready to go to to Sacrament tomorrow in hopes of helping to keep a wee one distracted for 1.25 hours. :)

Janet's Bag o' Fun

Now that I'm home, I can join the crafty club and show off my mad sewing skills. Not true, this challenge actually reminded me why I dislike sewing and haven't done it in a long time.  But I did it.  And here's how it turned out.
Somehow my bag turned out bigger than the ones my mom made, which is weird since I just did what she told me... And I didn't have a zipper foot to use, which I'm sure would have made the bag that much better.  It turned out okay, but not the most professional thing ever.  The bright side of being a bad seamstress is that I can only get better!

Becky's Bag

Here's MY pouch...well, my zipper pouch, anyway!

Relieved that the zipper wasn't so bad. Nervous that it wouldn't turn out. But I just might make more!

Thanks again for another fun project.

Bags o' Emily F

I have failed in my mission to be last this month. I got so bored last week when The Return of Winter forced us indoors with nowhere to go and nothing to do that I figured I might as well spend an afternoon getting this out of the way. I actually made three bags, but here are two.

This is my first one with this awesome fabric I found for 81 cents in the remnant bin.
Can you guess what's going inside?

And then I made one of these.

The sides didn't match up very well, haha. But it was my third project of the day and I was getting tired of sewing, plus I was in a hurry to finish before Lauren woke up, plus I like all my projects to have character, so I'm fine with it.

Alice's Pouch (and no, I don't mean my stomach!)

I know this will come as a complete shock to everyone, but I finally actually made something to post on "Sew Scoresby"! The past few months I have felt like a complete sewing slacker, so in March I vowed that I would make the April Challenge. Then I saw that it was something with a zipper and thought, "uh-oh!" But it was actually easy because I actually followed the directions and I actually used my zipper foot. I even used a zipper that was too long and cut it off. I had the funky fabric and thought it would be a cute little bag for Hannah. Now the next trick will be to get her sewing on her own. Oh, and if you're wondering why my post says "Alice" it's because when I set up my Dewey Violets blog, I used my alter ego, Alice, and now whenever I use my google account it says Alice.

Laura's little bag

Not my favorite project either, Sarah. But here is my humble offering for April. I used leftover fabric, but I had to actually buy a zipper. I used the tutorial link on the blog. I had kind of a hard time getting the zipper to lay flat when I was sewing the edges of the bag together.

Not my best work. But did you notice that my text matches my bag? And once again I've taken longer to get this post online than I did to make the silly bag! Someday I'l figure it out. On to the next project...!

Katie B's Zipper Bag :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

This is my zipper bag. I think the fabrics match well. I used a music pattern that my mom had leftover for the outside. I accidentally sewed one of the outside pieces upside down so one side is right side up and the other is wrong side down! OOPSY! I used red for the lining. I used an old zipper my mom had, it was to long, but we cut it off the extra. My problem was that the lining was bigger than the outside. When I was done, the lining kept on getting caught in the zipper, so while my mom was making hers, she sewed a line right under the zipper so it would stay in place. I took it to church the next day :)

Sarah's bag

This was not my favorite project. The zipper doesn't really match the fabric, but I wasn't going to buy anything, so I used what I had. I also couldn't sew a straight seam when I sewed the zipper on. The lining tends to get caught in the zipper whenever I open or close it, so hopefully however I use this little pouch, I won't have to open it very often. Maybe I'll give it to Janet. I also sewed the corners so that there would be a bottom/base and it could stand up. Here are some not-very-good pictures of my...creation.

I was hoping to be the first this month (and beat Sarah) but Mom beat me!!

My sister-in-law, Becky, made a bunch of these little pouches about a year ago, and I thought they were cute.  I will admit, I had to take the zipper out twice before I finally got it put in right  Darn zipper!

Done!

I thought I'd get mine done early. So here they are. I'm sorry if you're sick of the oriental kids fabric, but I love it. And yes, I did use old zippers that I had lying around here.

Stepping it up--April Challenge

Okay, this month we are going step it up a little and involve a ZIPPER in our challenge. So this month's challenge is a zippered pouch. It can be a cosmetic bag, a pencil pouch, organizer--whatever you would like to call it. But it has to have a zipper closure. There are many tutorials out there, but here is one you can use. Just ignore the instructions about the iron on decorations (unless you want to put iron on decorations on your bag.) Just a note for any who may not know--if you have old zippers around the house that are longer than the size you need, you can still use one of those for this project. A zipper with plastic teeth can be cut off at the size you need and used without any problem. Here's an explanation of how to do it. Have a happy sewing month!

Weener!

Okay, the winner of March's prize, the book Thread & Bobbin is Erin. Congrats, Erin, I'll put it in the mail right away. Thank you all for participating this month--it was a fun challenge.
