Janet's Mexican PJs

I got real bored tonight waiting for my BYU mint brownies to cool so I could chow down, so what did I decide to do?  Sew some PJs of course!  I wanted to use fabric that we had hanging around here, but there was only one choice. The result is a pair of sombrero-wearing chicken pajamas.

Cool, huh?  I have zero guesses as to why we have fabric that like in our house, but if you really like it, I am willing to sell some to you.

The PJs are awesome.  There are some major minor problems, probably due to the speed sewing job I managed (the brownies were waiting, it was 8 pm on the last day of the month, I am rather impatient, etc, etc) but they are actually okay.  I am going to go back and bring the waist down, hopefully making them much more comfortable in the crotch area.
PS.  Sorry about the bum shot.  The pants look much better from the backside.

Katie B's PJ Pants

Here are my Pajama pants. I had a different fabric all chosen out, but then I saw this fabric and my mom and I liked it a lot, plus it was really cheap cause it was on sale.

Ummm... my mom found the tutorial at this website. It was hard to understand, but we eventually- after hours of sewing, picking out, sewing, pulling hair out!- got my pants done. The weird thing was we used one of my sweats for a pattern, they fit, in fact the are to big in the waist! BUT STILL MY PANT WAIST IS SMALL!

I love playing soccer so that's why I chose this fabric. I like it cause it's all fuzzy and seems very warm. Plus it is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
cute:) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NOTICE I AM WEARING MY ALLRED T-SHIRT IN THE PICTURE!

I really liked this project. AND I got it done in time. Barely. Well, I have to say this. I can't wait for summer cause I'm gonna sew a skirt- or try to. I already have the fabric picked out, Right Mom?!?!?

Good Luck everyone on next months challenge!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Our Jammies

I'm pretty sure I was the first one done with this project, but not having internet for two weeks, moving, and starting a new job made it hard to actually post. A loving sister suggested I make matching pants for me and Brian, and I did. (Do I get two entries into the drawing?) The hardest part was finding (inexpensive) fabric that could be used for both male and female pajamas. The fabric I used for the trim is a more girlie, which is why it only shows up in hidden parts of Brian's pants. DISCLAIMER: My pants shrunk quite a bit the first time I washed them, making them quite small. I took a picture of us wearing our matching pajamas, but I'm a little too embarrassed to post it. I might need to sew some racing stripes down the sides to make them wearable.

Hannah's pajama pants

Hannah made these pants with a little help from Grandma. You can see the little froggies on them and the button on the front. They have elastic in the waist. This is the first thing she has ever sewn and it only took her two and a half hours. She found it fun and challenging and her favorite part was zig-zag-ing.

Lauren's Lounge Pants

I'm not really into sewing clothes for myself. Or sewing clothes in general. I find I can usually find things for cheaper in stores and then I don't have to spend the time and frustration in making something that looks like I made it.

But I wanted to participate in the challenge, so I used this tutorial to make a pair of lounge pants out of one of Preston's old t-shirts. I have to call them lounge pants because by law, kids' pajamas have to be either made of flame resistant material or very tight fitting. These are neither. So I call them lounge pants and if she happens to fall asleep wearing them........I would wake her up and put flame resistant pajamas on her, naturally.

These are super low rise. The pants I used as a guide were a good couple of inches too long, so I wanted to shorten them, but being me, I took the extra off the top instead of the bottom. Duh.

I didn't want to waste the rest of the shirt, so I used the sleeves to make a quick pair of shorts. No close ups on the shorts because I managed to sew one side inside out (see above about things I make looking like I made them).

Here's the link to the tutorial. Blogger and IE 9 don't get along and it's not letting me link to it. http://www.rookiemoms.com/make-some-easy-kids-pants/

pjs

Here are my pants.  I made them for Ben because it is really hard to find pj pants long enough for him (especially after a few washes).

They should work.

Winner and new challenge

Okay, this month's winner is....Aunt Emily! Woot--the Pitts family is on a roll!

We are also going to step up the challenge again this month. May's challenge will be pajama pants. Here is a tutorial, but feel free to buy a real pattern if you would rather and if you are not too cheap. You can make these out of flannel, fleece, a cotton print or even something silky and fancy. You can also make them with an elastic waistband or a drawstring, depending on how lazy/skilled you are. You can make them for yourself or for someone else.

Thank you, ladies, for participating. I love you all!

Aunt Emily's camera bag

So, for my project this month I decided to sew a camera bag for Matt to use with his new camera.

I wanted to it to look manly, and give the camera some protection.  Since we don't have a large selection of manly fabric, he got basic black with a green plaid lining.

To give the camera some protection, I added batting between the outside and the lining.    The camera and all the accessories fit perfectly into the bag!

Best of all, it only took me about 20 minutes!  And, I just eyeballed it when I cut the fabric.  I did break a needle on the machine, but I had a spare, so no worries!

Thanks for the great project Margaret!

And the winning streak continues!

Once again, I am one of, if not the last person to post my project. The streak lives. So, this is my cutesie-wutesie little bag
I added a bright blue zipper for some, may I say, wonderful contrast.
And I made the inside blue plaid. Because I like blue plaid. So, yeah.
And wait for it..... wait for it....
BAM! It stands. My little bag can stand on it's own two corners. They grow up so fast......

I Love Procrastination

Thank you, Aunt Margaret! This has been my favorite project so far. We used the tutorial that Aunt Margaret linked to. It was pretty simple. Minor trouble when Emily accidentally had me sew one side inside out, but all in all, it was very easy. We sewed along the top edge to keep the lining from getting caught in the zipper, which wasn't in the tutorial, but I desperately needed it. And I am totally making more of these!
