When Brooke is tired, she really likes holding something and rubbing it against her face. I get tired of that, because that often ends up being my shirt, my hair, etc. And when she is in bed, she has no comfort item. I have a small piece of fabric from my quillow I had when I was younger and thought that would be perfect to use and make a lovey with.
I used this tutorial, since the fabric is bears. I don't have anything to poke holes for crocheting into fabric, so I improvised and sewed an edge stitch around the fabric and then crocheted into each edge stitch. It worked out marvelously.
I was nervous, because I haven't crocheted in a long time, and even then, the results were always so-so. But I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was. The hardest part was the face (obviously by my pictures).
I don't have a tapestry needle (I don't even know what that is), so I had to make up my own way to sew the facial features on. His eyes look very sad sometimes, but I don't care, because Brooke doesn't. She laughs every time she looks at it. That's a good thing, right?
I'm still working on her actively choosing to hold it, but when I give it to her before bed, she uses it. Yay!

Impressive Janet!
Wow, you can crochet way better than I can. Since the pacifier got taken away, we've been forcing a lovey on Owen. He likes to clutch it, but he has gone to sleep with it over his face a few times, which scares me.
PS A tapestry needle is just a big needle, like the kind you use to tie a quilt.
