Happy Birthday Janet

I'm the one who found the idea about making a bag from a placemat. It seemed pretty simple and I was in need of a new purse so I tried it. This was the first one I made back in March. (I bought the handles if you couldn't tell.)

I pretty much use that purse all the time now. Well, I use it whenever I use a purse, which isn't too often. Anyway, Janet was wowed by my awesome sewing capabilities and mentioned that she would like a placemat bag to use as a scripture case. I didn't get it done before she went home, so I decided I would make her one for her birthday. Janet's birthday is in May, so it ended up being a pretty belated birthday present. Here you go, Janet. Hope you like it.

The bag will be available for you whenever Brian and I visit Water Kettle or when you come back out to Provo, whichever comes first. I made it the perfect size for a set of regular sized scriptures plus an accessory item like a wallet or keys (or both).

[Not for Janet's eyes!!]

The placemat was only $2 from Walmart and since I had to cut it down to be the size of scriptures, I used the seams I cut off as the handles. It worked out pretty well.

Cool! Will you make me one too?

Very cute. I like them both. Clever to make a scripture tote. I need a new one. Where did you find the instructions?

It looks professional, Sarah! Very resourceful to use the seams as handles!

Yes! I can't wait to get it (months after my birthday). Emily, if you want one for your birthday, you can expect it by Christmas.

I hope this isn't what I'm getting for Christmas.

I can't remember exactly what tutorial I used, but this one seems close: http://scribbit.blogspot.com/2007/07/placemat-purses.html
